Nature is my inspiration for much of my photography. I am fascinated with the elements – wind, water, fire and earth. I am attracted to the delicate patterns and shapes found in nature. I try to harness the original photograph and use textiles as the medium to capture the rhythms and textures of the natural world creating something unique. I work from the inside out adding layers to the original piece.
It is only after spending time contemplating each image that I begin to sew. I experiment with paper, thread, color and pattern to discover what pleases me to complete my final vision for the piece. Each final work has texture; some have movement from loosely hanging threads and some have shine from metallic threads.
This project has challenged me to think of different ways of looking at nature and incorporating natural materials to deepen my connection to the earth.
