Healing

 

With this project, I explore the human condition through abstract art by using symbolism and technique.

 

I began this project when my husband had open-heart surgery and continued through the isolation of the Covid pandemic.

 

I use photographs as a foundation for the imagery which I layer with gauze, stitching, paper and found objects.

 

The various stages of healing – chaos, hope, transformation, acceptance – are represented in these images. A symbol of hope, the circle, appears in each image and stitching becomes the connective tissue of the elements.

 

These abstract images transcend the line between photography and fiber arts and become something beyond the original photograph.
